In the Montpellier Académie, 62 projects have been selected for this programme. With 21 laboratories of excellence and 9 facilities of excellence, the region has demonstrated its strengths in subject areas such as the environment, agriculture, chemistry, health and energy. As far as the health sciences are concerned, it is involved in 10 national health infrastructure projects and the creation of a multidisciplinary bioinformatics centre in Montpellier. 6 biotechnology and bioresources projects concern the use of new technologies for improving cultivated plants and developing biomass. 3 Carnot Institutes (SME and International) have been approved.
The results of the ‘Investment in the Future’ Programme (PIA) in Languedoc‑Roussillon Midi-Pyrénées are a testament to the high academic standards maintained throughout the region in all the major disciplines. They reflect the value of the extensive partnership between universities and research institutes and promote research in the region’s flagship areas such as energy, health, chemistry, the environment, agriculture, the digital sciences, archaeology and the economic and management sciences. The approval of eight initiatives of excellence in innovative education demonstrates the site’s commitment to its educational mission, meeting a commonly-expressed requirement.
